Twila Allen Upchurch

twila upchurch

Twila Allen Upchurch, 84, of Greensboro passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 25, 2024 surrounded by her family. Twila was born on April 9, 1940 to the late Dossie and Bertie Allen of Robbins.

Twila was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy. She graduated from Elise High School in 1958. Following high school, she completed her education at UNC Women’s College Greensboro (UNC-G).  She worked in the dental industry for 45 years. She enjoyed cooking and loved to entertain, always making sure there was more than enough for whomever was around the table. She loved the beauty of nature, working in her yard, sweeping and dead-heading flowers.  She enjoyed basketball. In high school, as a part of a state championship team she was named All State. She later became an enthusiastic Duke fan.  Twila enjoyed listening to gospel music. The Gaithers and the Texas Tenors were among some of her favorites. Most of all, Twila enjoyed visiting, laughing and telling stories of years past around the dinner table with family and friends.

Twila was a doting mother to Wayne and all of his friends that were like extended family, and loyal “Nana” to Emmie.

She is survived by her son Wayne, a brother and his wife Fariel and Nell, Grand dog Emmie, sister-in-law Jane Allen and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, May Allen, Arthur Ray Allen, AC Allen (Mearle), Vernon Allen (Dessie), Vinson Allen (Mary), Faye Williams (Clifford), Larry Allen and Wayne’s father, Jerry Upchurch.

The public may pay their respects on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.

Funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM at High Falls Methodist Church (324 Frieson Road) in Robbins. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
