Virginia Drake Matthews, age 85 of Carthage died Wednesday (February 22, 2012) at her home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at St. John's United Church of God. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Anson County she was a daughter of the late Sally Mae Drake and Perry Tyson. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Matthews.
She is survived by: one son Ather Matthews and wife Kesha of Carthage; two daughters Regina Matthews of the home and Pastor Brenda Whitaker and husband Robert of Southern Pines; step son Richard Shaw and wife Mildred of Asheboro; sister Helen Davis Smith and husband Duane of Jersey City, NJ; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter.
The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 - 7:30 and other times at the residence.
