Born May 20, 1911 in Wilson, NC and grew up in Petersburg, VA. She graduated from Harrisonburg Teacher's College (now James Madison University) in 1932. After teaching school in Burlington from 1935 - 1939 she married Sherwood Battle Brockwell, Jr. and moved to Raleigh. Following World War II she lived in Carthage and settled in Southern pines in 1950. She was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church serving as the second woman elected to the Vestry, Alter Guild member, president of the Episcopal Church Women, and part of the Care Giver Group. A longtime member of Alfred Moore DAR Chapter she was also active with the Girl Scouts and the Easter Seal campaign. From 1969 until its closing, Jinks managed the Carolina Country Store in Aberdeen. She was an avid reader and an excellent bridge player with many different bridge groups over the years. She is remembered as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah B. Mathews and husband, Robert of Southern Pines, a sister, Nancy Flynn of Winston-Salem, three granddaughters, Melissa Barbara Mathews of Linville, Heather Lee Mathews of Winston-Salem, and Amanda Mathews Musgrave and husband Aaron of Fairfield, IL, and one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Virginia Musgrave of Fairfield, IL.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Organ Fund or to the Friends of the Southern Pines Library.
