William E. 'Howard' Bean, Sr., age 83 of Haw Branch died Saturday (January 15, 2011) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Horseshoe Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Tom Currie. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Surry County he was a son of the late Eslie Clifton Bean and Ellen Elizabeth Baker Bean. He was veteran of the US Coast Guard and was a retired truck driver. He also farmed and worked as a security guard. He was preceded in death by: his wife Shirley Batten Bean and brothers Robert Clifton Bean and Melvin Richard Bean.
He is survived by: daughters Barbara McNeill of Sanford, Shirley Moore of Robbins, Donna Yopp of Sanford, Carol Bean of Sanford; sons Sam Bean and Billy Bean both of Wilmington; sisters Gracie M. Driggers of Spring, TX, Sylvania Barney of Tifton, OH; caretaker and grandson Mike Bean; 11 other grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and following the service in the church fellowship hall.
