William T. Collings Jr., 94 of Belle Meade Retirement Community, Southern Pines, NC, died Sunday, August 4, 2014.

 

Services will be held privately at a later date.

 

Bill was the son of the late William T. Collings Sr. and Serena Perry Collings. Born in Las Cruces, NM, he was raised in the Western part of the United States. He attended Stanford University and graduated from Cal Tech and served as an Officer in the Navy Seabees in WW II.

 

After marrying Patricia Rogers, he settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the founder of Collings Engineers and President of Stevens Construction Company. He and Pat moved to CCNC in Pinehurst, NC upon his retirement in 1988.

 

As a member of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph of the Pines, he was instrumental in the conception and establishment of Belle Meade. An avid tennis player all his life, he was passionate about the game of tennis and the Green Bay Packers.

 

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Pat of 60 years in 2006. He is survived by his two daughters, Christine C. Friend (Bob) of Annapolis, MD and Judy C. Kesslering of Chicago, IL, four grandchildren, Jane Patricia Friend, Caroline Friend Frazee (Matt), Connor William Kesslering, Charles Carl Kesslering and one great grandchild, Robert Fitzgerald Frazee.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moore Regional Hospital Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374 or the FirstHealth Hospice Foundation at 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374
