William Edward “Bill” Koontz, 82, of Pinehurst, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
Bill was born October 22, 1942, to the late Robert Lee and Aleine Mears Koontz. He was a proud United States Navy veteran with a heart for his community. After retiring from Delmarva Power and Light after 30 years of service, Bill moved to Pinehurst in 2004 to be closer to his family.
A past president and former zone chair for the Pinehurst Lions Club, Bill worked hand in hand with his fellow Lions to make a positive impact on the community. Bill was also an active Pinehurst United Methodist Church member and sang in the church choir for many years. An avid University of Kentucky fan, Bill never missed a basketball or football game. He also enjoyed an occasional round of golf, fishing, and relaxing at home with a Western or James Dean film on television. Bill’s greatest achievement in life was his family. He will forever be remembered as a beloved husband, father, and Pop-Pop.
Bill is survived by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Susan Koontz, of Pinehurst; son, Bob Koontz, and his wife, Toni, of Pinehurst; and granddaughter, Caroline Koontz, of Pinehurst.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Pinehurst United Methodist Church with Pastor Jabe Largen officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A graveside service and burial will be held Friday, January 17th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Redmen Cemetery in Dagsboro, Delaware.
