Winfred 'Wimp' W. Hampton

Winfred Winslow “Wimp” Hampton, age 83, of Vass, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at his home.
A funeral service will be held on 3:00 pm Sunday at Carthage Elementary School Auditorium. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive AME Zion Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 pm-2:45 in the Auditorium.
A native of Moore County, he was the son of the late Joseph & Julia McLaughlin Hampton. Wimp retired from Moore County Schools in 1992 where he was a well loved custodian by both co-workers and students for over 37 year.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Hampton and a daughter Lisa Ross.
He is survived by: his wife, Lynda Cotton Hampton; two sons, James (Rose) Hampton of Philadelphia, PA, Winfred Hampton, Jr. of Monroe, GA; four daughters, Janet Mason of Sanford, Pamela Hampton of Carthage, Kay Hampton of Arden, Hope (Anthony) McKinnon of West End; two step-daughters, Krystal Bowe of West End, Gabriel Harris of Cameron; four sisters, Willie Mae Cobb of Raleigh, Agnes McKeithen of Vass, Josie Hampton of Fayetteville, Brenda (Elijah) Newkirk of MD; brother, James (Alexis) Hampton of MD; niece, Kathy Hampton of Fayetteville; God-daughter, Jessica Burt of Fayetteville; 16 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.
