Wilma Lee Baldwin Thompson born October 15, 1933, passed away peacefully one day after her 91st birthday on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, with her loving sons by her side. 

Wilma was born in Randolph County to the late Clarence and Laura Williams Baldwin. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Monroe Thompson and her brother, Edward Thomas Baldwin. 

She is survived by her two sons; C.W. Thompson of Carthage and Charles (Laura) Thompson of Cameron; her two granddaughters, Christine (Johnny) Haymore of Cameron and Samantha Holder of Statesville; and her five great-grandchildren: Rachel, Steve, Mary-Grace, Miranda, and Patrick. 

Wilma was a resilient woman who worked almost 40 years as a Business & Accounting Teacher, lastly with Union Pines High School in Carthage. She volunteered many hours and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, which promotes the professional and personal growth of women educators. She loved animals, especially cats, and gardening. 

A funeral service will be held Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Eureka Presbyterian Church in Carthage. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 2 p.m.  Pastor Jim Boyte will be officiating.

  1. She was a good teacher at Union Pines. She taught me Gereral Business and typing. This was 1965 first seniors

  2. One of the most humble Lady I have ever known. Wilma touched a lot of lives and will be remembered by family,friends and the many students she taught.

  4. I was a Business Teacher at NM while Wilma was at UP. She was an inspiration to beginning teachers. She was always so kind and humble. She never minded sharing any of her ideas for being a successful teacher. Prayers to the family in your loss of a wonderful Mother.

  5. Mrs Thompson was the most generous kind teacher at UPHS. She taught me typing and shorthand. The skills I learned from her have been the most valuable in my career.
